Master Joshua Hong
Founder & Master Instructor
Eternal Martial Arts was established in October of 2009 by Master Joshua Hong, however that is not the beginning of the story. Mr. Hong was a prominent member of United Tae Kwon-Do for 15 years (since 1996) with 2 successful locations. Master Hong began learning under Grandmaster Frank Santarose at the age of 4. Upon attaining his black belt, Mr. Hong left the Tae Kwon-Do world on the insistence of his father. When Master Hong turned 16, he returned to Master Santarose as an employee, student, and apprentice. After 2 years of instructor training, Master Hong (19 years old) opened his first location on Jones Rd. on November 1st, 1996. Subsequently, he opened a location in Pearland, where he and his wife Dana Hong lived when they were first married in 2000. Since then, Master Hong has moved his 1st location from Jones Rd. to his own stand-alone building on Steeplecrest Dr. Also, the Pearland location has moved from a simple warehouse, to a sizeable and prominent location in the heart of Silverlake in Pearland. The roots of Eternal Martial Arts are still grounded in the rigorous and complete system of traditional I.T.F. Tae Kwon-Do. Since October 2009 though, Master Hong has developed his program to include aspects of several martial arts, namely: self-defense (real-defense), weapons training, and grappling techniques.
Joshua Hong obtained his first degree black belt on January 24th, 1986. Currently, Master Hong holds a 6th degree black belt in Tae Kwon-Do. He was also bestowed the rare honor of becoming a “Sabumnim” (Master), before obtaining his 5th degree rank. His principle training still remains Tae Kwon-Do, but he pursues the knowledge of martial arts wherever it may be. He embraces a philosophy stated by Bruce Lee: “Absorb what is useful; Disregard that which is useless.”
Joshua and Dana Hong have 3 children: Wesley, Gabriel, and Katelyn Hong. They reside in Northwest Houston near the Jones Rd. location.
Dr. Katarina Terzic Conrad
President
After enrolling her son Sasha in our Tae Kwon-Do school, Dr. Katarina Conrad couldn’t help but join herself. After just weeks of watching her son and husband have all the fun, she jumped in with both feet. Her love of Tae Kwon-Do caused her to seek additional training and earnestly sought the competition scene in tournaments. Her diligence paid off in a big way as she became a multi-year national gold champion. In March of 2012, both she and her husband Dr. Emery Conrad became co-owners of Eternal Martial Arts Pearland. Dr. Conrad is the greatest example of perseverance and indomitable spirit that Eternal Martial Arts has ever seen.
Walter Rodriquez
Kyosanim (Head Instructor)
Since a very young age, Walter Rodriguez was a student at Mr. Hong’s first location in Northwest Houston (Jones Rd.). He trained for several years before getting side-tracked as young kids often do. Mr. Rodriguez would run into Mr. Hong in the Jones Rd. area and promise to continue his training. One day, around the age of 16, he made good on that promise and never left again. Since his return, Mr. Rodriguez has become a 3rd degree black belt and teaches with style of extreme clarity. He is both humble and courteous. There is no other person who better exemplifies these tenets of Tae Kwon-Do: courtesy and integrity. He is Mr. Hong’s most loyal and longest serving instructor.
Sean Salvino
Jokyonim (Assistant Instructor)
Mr. Salvino began his Tae Kwon-Do training with Eternal Martial Arts (at that time: United Tae Kwon-Do) as a very young person. Like Mr. Rodriguez, Sean worked his way up through the program, becoming a black belt, then an instructor. First, Mr. Salvino acted as an office assistant, helping out with management and computer work. Subsequently, he started getting on the floor as an instructor’s assistant (Jokyonim). After training and teaching for many years, Mr. Salvino has become a very competent and gifted instructor. He teaches well to all ages and has a heart of gold for kids. Once, he asked Mr. Hong to be a little late to help out with class. After being asked why, he replied he was teaching hip hop to orphans.
